Courtney & Noel Bahnsen'
We got engaged in October 2010. We had only been officially dating for 4 months, 2 of those I had spent in Europe travelling with my Mum. I got back and 2 weeks later he proposed. Apparently he had planned to do it in the city one weekend but he was so nervous about it that it happened really unexpectedly for both of us. We were getting ready to go out and he came up behind me and said “You look really beautiful but something is missing”. I turned around and he was on one knee holding a ring. It was pretty cute. His hands were shaking.
We had 1 year and 3 months from the proposal to the wedding date. We were married on the 11thFebruary, 2012. I didn’t really have an exact budget that I wanted to stick to but hoped it wouldn’t be more than $25,000. I found things that I loved and found ways to work with the costs. We spent around that amount in the end (not including honeymoon costs)
I tried to base the theme around my engagement ring. It’s a newer style ring but has a vintage feel to it. So I went for vintage/rustic with a hint of glamour.
Martina Liana designed my gown. It was from her Autumn collection and I was lucky enough to be the first bride ever to wear it. It had an ivory lace bodice with a full silk tulle skirt. There was also a diamonte and pearl belt that went around the waste.
My shoes were by Wittner and had a diamonte buckle on them which matched the belt on my dress. I didn’t wear much jewellery other than some drop pearl earrings by Linda Gorringe and a friend of mine leant me a diamond bracelet.
My bridesmaids were wearing dresses, shoes and earrings all from Forever New. Their dresses were a dusty pink with gold embroidery and they wore gold glitter shoes.
Noel and the boys all wore matching grey suits with vests and white shirts all from Spurling.
I made all the stationary myself. It took forever but was fun and everyone commented on it.
My hair and Make Up was done by some friends. My friend Melody Marrone who is a Make Up artist did myself and the girls. She did an amazing job. We just wanted to keep it all natural and soft.
My hair was done by a family friend. I had my hair out and in barrel curl and the girls all had theirs in updos and each was different. Unfortunately it rained on the day and my hair went flat so if I could do it over again that would be the only thing I’d do differently... have my hair up.
We didn’t actually do any pampering sessions other than the night before. Everyone stayed at my house and we scrubbed our bodies with a salt scrub, moisturised and painted our nails.
The 2 months in the lead up to our wedding I began a teeth whitening program through my dentist which was wonderful.
For my Bridal Shower I had a heap of girly friends over and we had a lolly buffet and played fun games etc. Later that night, we all got into our short shorts and went to a Pole Dancing class. It was so much fun and gave us some moves to use on the dance floor that night at our local club.
My florist was J & N Paradise of Flowers. He gets his flowers in Fresh every 2nd day and they are whole sale price. SO we got beautiful flowers for a lot cheaper than any other florist.
The girls and I had posies of dusty pink roses and ivory lisianthes. The boys bottonholes were a single ivory lisianthe.
We hired our cars through Thrifty. We didn’t have a lot of money to spend on cars so we got 3 dark grey Hyundai i45’s. They looked fantastic and we got all 3 for the whole weekend for only $500.
Our ceremony was held under a beautiful gazebo at Ashcombe Maze on the Mornington Peninsula.
We had a company provide us with white American Style chairs, white carpet and flowers for the side of the aisle. The company was called Event Perfection. They were really helpful and had everything set up and packed away so we didn’t have to worry.
Our photos and video were both done by Dreamlife Photography. Our photos were taken throughout the gardens at Ashcombe Maze, Dromana Beach and at our reception venue.
Our Reception was at a winery in Dromana called Stillwater at Crittenden. We had a formal sit down dinner with our cake as the desert made by House of Elegant Cakes. The food was outstanding and the service was immaculate. Couldnt have asked for anything better.
The venue itself was stunning with a beautiful big lake and willow trees. The restaurant had wooden floorboards and was rustic and beautiful. We had a 4 piece live band. They were incredible and so much fun. Everyone was up and dancing straight after dinner.
We spent our wedding night in an over water bungalow at our reception venue.
Our honeymoon was so much fun. We went to Hawaii, Las Vegas and LA. All up we were away for just over 3 weeks.
